The Complete Zhik Dinghy Hiking System
In dinghy sailing, performance is never built around one product. It comes from a system. One that connects the sailor and boat, supports efficient power transfer, and holds up through every leg, manoeuvre and race.
Proven Dinghy Hiking Performance
Zhik's leadership in dinghy hiking has been earned over many years. In the ILCA classes, Olympic gold medals span from 2012 through to 2024. Those results reflect years of athlete-led development, refinement under pressure, and a clear understanding of what high-performance sailors need when hiking load becomes decisive.
Zhik's approach has never been to build isolated products. It has been to engineer an integrated hiking system where each element works with the next. Boots grip effectively with hiking straps. Hikers support sustained effort without restricting movement. Hiking Pads deliver pressure distribution while allowing layering flexibility. This thinking has made Zhik the benchmark in dinghy hiking performance.

One System, Built to Work Together
Each product has a specific role, but the real advantage comes from how they work together. Better grip under the strap creates a more stable foot position. Better underfoot structure increases support. Better lower-body support sustains posture and reduces fatigue.

Creates the primary connection between sailor and boat. ZhikGrip II interlocking system, Michelin Fibrelite outsole, 3D knitted construction.

Elite-level support insert using Carbitex M3 Monoflex. Resists plantar flexion to create a stiffer base underfoot for increased leverage.

Locks connection into the boat. Patented interlocking interface with ZhikGrip-compatible boots for stability and power transfer under load.

Delivers integrated lower-body support. Built-in locked-in hiking pad system. Available in men's and women's styles across both ranges.

Proven modular alternative. Ergonomically shaped, worn under wetsuits or drysuits. Almost two decades of innovation and on-water testing.

A closer look at each product in the system

Hiking X Boot
At the front of the system is the Hiking X Boot, Zhik's most advanced dinghy hiking boot to date. Built for high-intensity hiking, it uses the patented ZhikGrip II system to interlock with hiking straps for stronger connection, improved stability and better support under load. A lightweight 3D knitted construction, precise side lace system and Michelin Fibrelite outsole combine to deliver a lighter, more responsive and more durable platform.
Hiking X Carbon Insole
Paired with the boot is the Hiking X Carbon Insole, an elite-level support insert built to increase hiking efficiency. Using Carbitex M3 Monoflex construction, it resists extreme plantar flexion while hiking to create a stiffer base underfoot, helping sailors maintain a straighter leg position, increase leverage and reduce strain through the ankles and calves.

ZhikGrip II Hiking Straps
The connection between sailor and boat does not stop at the boot. Zhik's hiking straps are a critical part of the full system, with ZhikGrip II central to that story. When combined with ZhikGrip-compatible boots, the strap system creates a more secure and stable interface under load, helping reduce unwanted movement and improve power transfer through the hiking cycle.
The straps are not just another accessory. They are a key performance component that helps turn grip into leverage and leverage into repeatable race performance.

The Core Hiker Range: Microfleece & Superwarm
Zhik's wetsuit hiker range is one of the most comprehensive dinghy hiking apparel ranges on the market, with the trusted Microfleece and Superwarm options forming the core of the adult lineup. Both are available in men's and women's styles, giving sailors more tailored fit options and setting Zhik apart with a more complete and inclusive performance offer.
Microfleece Hikers
Microfleece hikers sit at the versatile centre of the range. Built for sailors who need warmth, flexibility and integrated support across a broad mix of conditions. For many, this is the all-round hiking option, balancing insulation, mobility and the support needed for long sessions on the water.
Lightweight thermal neoprene construction, strong durability, a customisable fit and a built-in locked-in hiking pad system make them a strong option for sailors who want freedom of movement while hiking more effectively for longer.
Superwarm Hikers
When conditions turn colder, Superwarm hikers extend the system further into thermal protection. Built for sailors who still need full hiking support, but with increased warmth for winter training, cold regattas and lower-temperature venues.
With a warmer neoprene construction, strong durability, a customisable fit and a built-in locked-in hiking pad system, they help sailors hold a more effective hiking position for longer when conditions are at their most demanding.
PowerPads: Proven, Flexible Support
PowerPads sit slightly separate to the integrated hiker suits, but they remain one of the most recognised products in Zhik's hiking history. Built on almost two decades of innovation and testing, PowerPads offer a proven modular alternative for sailors who want serious hiking support that can be worn under wetsuits or drysuits.
Their value lies in flexibility and integration. Ergonomically shaped and built to integrate seamlessly into a wider layering system, they allow sailors to build their hiking setup around existing layers, training preferences or class requirements.

Key Technologies Behind the Range

A patented interlocking connection between boot and strap that improves grip, stability and power transfer where sailor and boat meet. Reduces unwanted movement under load and supports a more stable foot position across longer periods.
