LawConnect delivered a determined and highly competitive performance at the 80th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, securing second place on line honours after an intense 628-nautical-mile battle from Sydney to Hobart. In one of offshore sailing’s most demanding races, the result reflects the precision, resilience and experience of a crew operating at the highest level of the sport, pushing hard through a race defined by pressure, complexity and relentless pace.
From the moment the fleet cleared Sydney Heads, LawConnect asserted itself as a front-running contender. Skippered by Christian Beck, the 100-foot supermaxi took an early lead and set a formidable tempo as the fleet headed south. Conditions quickly reinforced the reputation of the Sydney Hobart as a true offshore test, with shifting winds, heavy seas and long hours on deck demanding constant focus and physical endurance. Throughout the race, the crew faced technical challenges, including sail damage and equipment issues, yet maintained speed and composure while remaining locked in a close contest with rival supermaxis.
“Overall, I’m very happy with our result,” Christian Beck said. “To be first out of the heads – I loved that start. That was something I will remember forever because to win a downwind start against Master Lock Comanche is great.”
“Coming second is also good. Obviously, it is not as good as coming first but against that fleet, it’s a good result.”
After nearly three days of hard offshore racing, LawConnect crossed the Hobart finish line just 47 minutes behind the race winner. It was a result earned through consistency and resolve, and one that underscored the fine margins at the elite end of ocean racing. Reflecting on the finish, Beck described the outcome as deeply satisfying given the conditions and the calibre of the competition, highlighting the effort required to stay in the fight from start to finish.
Zhik is proud to have supported LawConnect as a technical partner throughout this campaign, equipping the crew with high-performance offshore sailing apparel designed specifically for races where protection, mobility and reliability are non-negotiable. During the Sydney Hobart, the team relied on Zhik’s OFS800 offshore range to manage prolonged exposure to cold, wind and water, along with performance footwear and UV protective layers to support comfort and focus across long watch systems. In offshore racing, gear must perform seamlessly in the background, allowing sailors to concentrate fully on decision-making, boat handling and endurance, and that principle underpins every product Zhik develops.
The Sydney Hobart Yacht Race remains a benchmark event where preparation is exposed and performance is proven. LawConnect’s second place finish stands as a strong statement of intent and capability, built on a professional campaign, a committed crew and the confidence that comes from trusted equipment. For Zhik, partnering with teams like LawConnect reflects a shared mindset grounded in precision, innovation and performance under pressure, and reinforces our commitment to supporting sailors competing at the very edge of offshore racing.
